When it comes to skin rejuvenation and scar treatment, La Mer Concentrated Facial Treatment has been the talk of the town. La Mer is a cosmetics company with extensive experience in scientifically combining natural ingredients to produce amazing results. While La Mer products are often top of the line and receive almost unanimous praise for their effects, no product can receive my seal of approval based solely on reputation. Being curious about this product, as well as having a couple of scars from previous accidents, I decided to give this product a try to see if it improves the visibility of scars and redness caused by other skin treatments.

Prior to its use, I had a microdermabrasion session that, as always, leaves the skin inflamed and irritated. This was the perfect time to test La Mer Concentrate Serum to see if it helps with facial redness. After applying a small amount to half of my face, the results were seen within ten minutes. Ingredients like Laminaria ochroleuca and eucalyptus globulus are plant extracts that help soothe skin on contact; now it was evident that half of my face looked normal while the other half remained irritated.

The second test required more time to monitor. I applied the serum twice a day to a scar directly above my left brow, hoping to see some difference after a couple of weeks of use. Within ten days, I could tell the difference; the scar had a lighter appearance and seemed to be reverting to a similar color to the surrounding skin. With optimism of improvement, I continued to use the serum for a further two weeks and can report that this “miracle treatment” significantly reduced the appearance of a scar that had been present for several years. I’ve been told this works especially well on cuts/scars after surgery.

There are also downsides to La Mer Concentrate. First of all, the price tag is in the $400-500 category, so it’s out of reach for many people. However, there is a 5ml version available for $35, so anyone who is curious and wants to try it out in an evaluation can afford it. The product can also block pores in people with sensitive skin, so be prepared if your skin is prone to breakouts.

La Mer products are highly functional, but what makes this concentrate so good? There are a couple of active ingredients that allow it to be such an effective healing agent:

* Laminaria ochroleuca – Also known generically as seaweed, this is a mainstay in many La Mer products and is excellent for treating burns and aiding skin growth.

* Niacin: helps the skin in the form of an antioxidant and skin whitening agent; a large contributor to reduced visibility of scars

For those who suffer from visible scarring and irritation from surgery or other cosmetic procedures, this quality product is a great antidote. Once you apply La Mer Concentrate to your problem areas, you’ll kick yourself for not trying it sooner!
