Everyone has thought about how they are going to propose at some point in their life. Reservations for a romantic dinner at some fancy restaurant usually come to mind. Well, that may be romantic, but that doesn’t mean he was very creative. Not very creative at all actually. A marriage proposal happens once, so you want to make sure it’s the best it can be.

Here’s something a lot of people don’t really think about. Outdoor proposals can be great experiences. You can go to your favorite campsites and stay the weekend. You want to make sure that only you and your girl are on the trip. A nice quiet trip where you can lie under the stars at night.

There are so many different techniques at your disposal while camping! For starters, you can hide the ring inside your sleeping bag. As you go to bed at night, before turning off the small light inside the tent (but this would have great dramatic effect if done under the stars on a clear night), complain that there is a small rock poking into your back. He reaches inside the sleeping bag and pulls out the ring. She will never have seen it coming.

Another camping proposal is to disassemble a lantern. What you want to do is hang the ring inside the glass part where the flame usually burns. Wait until it starts to get dark and tell him that you are going to light some lanterns. If you are lighting more than one flashlight, save the one with the ring for last. Now, when you get to the special lantern, tell it that you’re having trouble turning it on and that you could use a hand. When he approaches, tell him that there is something inside that is preventing him from turning on. Give him the flashlight (in a preferably dark area so he can’t see the ring yet). Then take a flashlight and shine it right on the engagement ring. This is going to be one of the last places you would have guessed an engagement ring was hiding.

Take your girl out for a walk alone, or have a friend come over and keep her busy for a while just before dark. She walks into the store and hangs the ring from the center point where all the bars in the store intersect. Let the ring hang down a bit on a piece of string. Now, to add some cool effects, place a small flashlight to point directly at the ring. The more focused the light is, the better. So if you have a good small, focused, alternate light source, use that instead. Now, the sky is darkening and setting the stage for us. Before your girl comes back, turn on the flashlight and close the shop. When he returns, he will surely ask why the flashlight is on in the store. Tell her that she forgot to turn it off and ask her nicely to turn it off for you. As soon as she opens the store, she will see the ring hanging at eye level reflecting those rays of light in all directions.

Most campsites have access to a lake. Conceal the ring in a belt pouch, fishing kit, flashlight, anywhere it will fit. Take this item with you when the two of you head out on the boat for some quality time on the water. There’s nothing like a sweet romantic moment in a little boat on the water. If you can get a rowboat that’s even better as it will remind you of all those romantic movies in Italy. A small CD or MP3 player can also be very useful here. Play your song before breaking the ring and asking her to marry you. The song, the boat, the water, the night sky, and especially the ring, added together, are a recipe for tears of joy.

There are even more ways to propose while camping, but here are a few to get your brain thinking. The trick is to make it unique. This is a night she’s been dreaming of since she was a little girl, so it’s her duty to make it the best time of her life. Good luck lovers!
