There are many interesting facts that people do not realize. One of them would be that there really is a difference between a wheel and a tire.

What is a wheel?

A wheel is the part of the car that is known as the part that is rounded and is attached to an axle and a hub. This does not include the tire and magazine. The hub is the section that allows the rounded part of the wheel to be attached to the axle, also known as the mounting assembly. It often has something called a hubcap to protect this part.

Did you know that the wheel came before the tire? Carriages, old tractors and plows were made with this handy invention. The whole purpose of the wheel was to assist with easy movement that would make life and travel easier and cheaper than horseback riding.

What is a tire?

The tire is simply the part that is made of rubber and helps the car with a more practical movement. The rubber grips the road for a frictionless experience. Think about roller skating and how a simple push will take you far. Before we had automobiles, horses and cattle pulled transportation. The cars don’t need to be pulled though, instead there are a lot of rotating parts, so the car will need something to help it with forward movement.

So what is a magazine?

The word mag sounds unique and unexpected when mentioned in general conversation. But did you know that its name comes from the word magnesium? The component is not made entirely of magnesium, but is instead associated with aluminum. Aluminum can be easily bent and molded into different shapes, but when combined with magnesium it adds extra strength so the mag stays light. This became a common trend in the 1960s when they were first produced.

When we speak in normal conversation, we always refer to the magazine as the wheel or the tire and the wheel component as a wheel. This has made terms easier as people who are only interested in customizations are not interested in the mechanical factor or the car.

When you talk to a professional, you expect to have the correct information if you come in with a problem. A professional will be more familiar with the correct terms for tires, wheels, and chargers because it is something they work with every day.
