When the Xbox360 glitch came out, there were a lot of rumors on the internet about the various ways to fix your own Xbox360 by yourself and all. One way that seems to be famous was the Towel method which is actually a temporary solution. The main reason it works is because the problem is due to the lead free solder in the circuit box.

With higher and more powerful processing power in the CPU unit, the heat generated when the console is turned on is too much for soldering on the soldering iron connection of the spherical grid array to the GPU. This causes the solder on the circuit board to break the connection thus producing the 3 red lights.

The towel method is done by first removing the controllers and also any other connection cables except the power cable. Leave the Xbox360 on and wrap it in 3 towels. Now leave it for about 25 minutes. After 25 minutes, let it cool down. After that, turn on the Xbox360 and hope for the best. The method works only temporarily and for how long really depends on the destination.

The solder basically heats up and expands, so they connect to each other again. However, this method will also heat up the motherboard and other circuitry, thus creating a potential fire hazard. It’s really just a matter of being able to reattach the solder on the assembly. So the heat gun method will work as well, these are just temporary fixes. If you’re good, you can do a complete reballing of the GPU assembly with lead solder like this guy.
