Most countries in the world have unique local business needs and legal requirements. Oracle Applications is being used in more than 140 countries, and to meet some of those local business and legal requirements, Oracle has added a new set of features and parameters to 11i called Localizations.

Oracle Applications was designed to support business and legal requirements in the United States. In some other countries localization has been developed and supported by the local Oracle office, therefore localization applies to the country for which it was originally created.

Brazil is one of the countries that Oracle has localization support. This country has many different legal requirements, so Oracle has created the “Brazilian Localization” to support them. Additional configuration is required in some functional module (GL, FA, PO, OM, INV, CE, AP, AR Billing, PAC) and there is also a new module called RI (Integrated Reception) that is only used in Brazilian implementations. To get an idea, there are about 300 process variations required or affected by the Brazilian localization.

When planning any global implementation of Oracle functionality, in order to support the planning effort to install a particular localization of Oracle applications, at least a high-level assessment of business operations is recommended. Localizations can never be forgotten in a global implementation. There are many ways to implement the multi-org structure where it can be designed to work with different currencies, take a look at our document that talks about the multi-org enhancement feature at this link.
