Barbie is more than just being a stylish doll, a coveted collectible or a world-famous toy. Barbie is an icon of society. She stands up for women’s rights and fights for what’s right on behalf of people all over the world. She has taken on a variety of roles, that of a princess, a ballerina, and a presidential darling.

Unveiled to the public in 1959, Barbie was presented in New York at the American International Toy Fair. She was dressed in a zebra-striped swimsuit and given the title “Teen Fashion Model”. Before its existence, little girls who acted as mommies only had dolls as their “babies” to play with.

In 1961, Barbie put her little brother, Skipper. She also became friends with Ken, Midge (who became best friends with her), and Allan. Barbie’s family finally got bigger. She soon had twin brothers, Tutti and Todd. In addition, she kept horses, cats, dogs, and many other animals as pets.

In addition to her outfits and shoes, mansions and vehicles were created for Barbie. Ken never gave her such luxurious things. No, those cars, mansions and jewelry stores were not his. Barbie acquired them all for herself from being a career woman. This represented a realistic image for little girls to see that a woman does not need a man to take care of her.

As an independent woman, she was able to buy expensive brand-name things. However, she lived a more meaningful life aside from living a life of luxury. In addition to being able to become a dentist, she has been able to teach people and treat sick animals. She has played social roles: soldier, peace ambassador, UNICEF representative, policewoman, firefighter, cook and paleontologist. In addition to being a flight attendant, she even had a license to fly planes!

Barbie has proven that through her commitments, little girls too can become like her: a woman who achieved her dream by putting her heart and mind into it. Barbie is not an American mother doll. She has been a cultural advocate, having taken on the roles of a Spanish Flamenco dancer, a Viking princess, and a South African lady, which is one of the many reasons children love her.

It’s no wonder Barbie will one day represent every culture through her dress and appearance. Designers and stylists alike want Barbie to wear her clothes this year. Movies become blockbusters if Barbie joins the cast of it.

Barbie has shown respect for the works of Shakespeare, the tales of King Arthur, The Wizard of Oz and Twilight. She is an inspiration to girls all over the world that women can be successful in whatever role they have in life. She has inspired them to be independent and strong so that they grow up to become individuals capable of changing the world to a much better place to live.
