History
The island was originally named Chaise’s Key when the area was mapped in the 1850s. It was changed to Casey Key in honor of Captain John Charles Casey. He was assigned to the area to help map the area. In the 1920s, a real estate developer briefly changed the name to Treasure Island. When the Florida real estate market crashed, the name reverted to Casey Key.
