Diet to Go is a diet delivery program that prepares all your meals fresh and then quick freezes them and ships them on dry ice. So the food is definitely a cut above the frozen food aisle at the grocery store. Of course, the price is also a bit higher! But what you really want to know is what does Diet to Go taste like? So here is a review.

For my first week, I decided to order a full week’s worth of three meals, using the low-fat menu. Next time I’ll try the low carb menu to see what it tastes like. It is slightly more expensive than the low fat menu. They also have a low fat vegetarian plan, but I like meat and poultry so I won’t order that one.

Breakfast

The breakfast items on the low-fat Diet to Go menu are mostly starches like bagels, pancakes and granola. They taste good, but they’re nothing I couldn’t buy myself at the supermarket since they require little preparation. I didn’t care much for the egg dishes either.

In the future I will stop ordering breakfast and save my money. I can buy bagels. If I really want eggs, scrambled eggs will take about 5 minutes. Since Diet to Go allows you to order just lunch and dinner, I think it’s the best way to go.

lunch and dinner

Lunch and dinner entrees are much better. In fact, they are quite tasty! Actually, these are cooked dishes that I wouldn’t take the time to make myself because I’m not very good at cooking. Some of them are simple dishes like Italian meatballs and Fettuccine. Others are more gourmet, like the Lobster Ravioli. I love curried chicken salad.

If I have one complaint about the Diet to Go entrees, it’s that they’re a bit salty. I’m not the only one who thinks the same, I’ve read it in some forums. I think foods are actually supposed to be low sodium according to the American Dietetic Association, but some things tasted a bit salty to me, especially the sauces. Still, I think this is just one of the things that can’t be avoided in prepared foods. Most of them are a bit salty. But you must be aware of it.

Overall though, I really like their food and am looking forward to trying the low carb options below as I think that may be the meal plan I’ll stick with for the long haul. I find that I lose much more weight by keeping my starches low.
