Yin YTT Yoga
Yin Yoga is a form of yoga that focuses on holding poses for long periods of time (three to five minutes or more) and involves placing gentle pressure on the body’s meridians. This helps to stimulate the meridians, promoting the smooth flow of energy throughout the body and releasing blockages that prevent energy from flowing freely.
The meridians are an important part of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and they’re thought to connect the body’s tissues and organs as well as influencing physical, emotional, and mental health. They’re also considered to be the pathways through which life force, or qi, flows through the body. Yin yoga can help to activate the meridians, bringing physical and emotional balance.
This is accomplished by a combination of techniques, including slow movement and deep stretching that allows the meridians to lengthen. As the meridian system is affected by the seasons, it’s also important to work with different meridians at different times of the year.
Does Yin YTT Yoga Increase Energy?
While many people think of Yin YTT for meridians as being very gentle and passive, the practice is actually quite challenging. The poses are held for a long period of time, which requires the body to release tension slowly and deeply. In addition, the poses are typically done seated or lying down. As a result, it’s not uncommon for intense feelings of emotions to arise during this practice.
The reason that yin yoga is so challenging is that the connective tissues of the body – ligaments, tendons, and fascia – don’t respond to heat-building activities like active yoga classes or traditional forms of exercise in the same way that major muscle groups do. In order to lubricate and lengthen these tissues, they require more time to stretch than the muscles do. This is why yin yoga works so well to relieve joint stress and improve overall flexibility.
As students spend more time in each pose, they’re able to focus on how the posture feels in their body rather than the technical details of alignment. This can be difficult for students who are used to a more active style of yoga, but it’s a crucial part of yin yoga’s holistic approach.
