A common myth about hypnosis is that you will not come out of the trance or that you will never wake up. This is simply not going to happen. If for some reason your subject falls asleep and no longer responds to your suggestions, you can wake them up just like you would any other sleeping person. Or you can let them fall asleep and wake up later like they would after a nap.

There are many ways to bring someone out of hypnosis. I’ll describe two ways for you, and through experimentation you’ll figure out which one to use and when.

In general, take someone out quickly to create an open loop. You do this by not finishing the hypnosis session and in the middle of the experience by breaking the trance. For example, someone might describe his new confidence to you and, halfway through, wake you up.

This leaves them in the mindset of seeing themselves as confidants. You can close the loop hours, days, or even weeks later. The lessons learned from the loop will be much more lasting than if you simply logged out. I usually break the trance quickly by saying “3,2,1 awake!” very quickly and the person wakes up almost instantly.

The other way to break the trance is by creating a trigger that is tied to “wake up”. This trigger is a hypnotic suggestion that will take effect only after you wake up. As an example, you might say, “When you wake up, you’ll feel a surge of confidence. This will lift your mood and leave a lasting impression on how you view yourself.”

To break the trance, he counts them slowly. Introduce the idea by saying, “I’m going to start counting slowly to 10. With each number you’ll feel yourself gradually becoming more awake. With each number you’ll feel your confidence increasing. With each number you’ll start to feel better about yourself.” and what you are capable of.

Then you start counting, with each number adding a hint.

For example, “One, beginning to gently wake up.”

“Two, start to feel the energy coming back into your body.”

“Three, the energy boost is already improving your mood and making you feel better.”

“Four, you almost feel like you can open your eyes.”

“Five, you can feel the effects of the hypnosis session starting to have a powerful and positive effect on your life.”

“Six, you can feel a surge of energy rushing to your feet.”

“Seven, you are starting to feel awake and full of energy.”

“Eight, when you start to wake up you can already start to notice how the lessons of the hypnosis session are improving your life.”

“Nine, almost there, almost wide awake.”

“And ten, open your eyes, refreshed and wide awake, ready to enter the world as a positive and confident person.”

Each of these two methods has its benefits and with practice you will learn when it is best to use each.
