In response to the runaway success of Apple’s App Store, we bring you the first of what will likely be a long series of roundups of what’s new and what’s new in iPhone apps.

1. ZRx Prescriber: Not of particularly direct use to most of us non-physicians, but of such extraordinary value to all of our physicians that ZoomMed’s prescription facilitation tool, now conveniently available at the Iphone.

 

2. iNotes: If you’ve ever used Lotus iNotes, do you already know how great it would be to have that “second memory” literally at your fingertips? IBM’s communication marvel brings Lotus Domino’s message server services (email, contacts, and calendar) to the iPhone.

 

3. I once: Calling this program a data aggregator would be like calling a great pyramid a building. iOnce stores and organizes all of your account information for each website you communicate with (email accounts, online banking, internet gaming, airline miles, social media, bookmarks, appointments, etc.). Plus, you can access all of these various sites and services through this one program, even sites that don’t yet have their own iPhone apps, and with security equal to or better than all the password-protected sites and services you already use. trust. Receive alerts and notifications of upcoming invoice due dates, monitor and modify travel itineraries, manage eBay listings and offers, and more. It’s no surprise, then, that this great app, courtesy of Israeli company Pageonce, is already in the Top 5 of Apple’s App Store Productivity Department, along with PayPal and Twitter.

 

4. Frommer’s Travel Guides: We probably don’t need to tell you what these inimitable little and big tomes have done for people all over the world over the years. At best, travelers find Frommer’s Guidebooks to be life-savers and otherwise no less than a vacation enhancement. Frommer’s Travel Guides is the ultimate pocket guide for self-guided tours, and certainly no less with these even smaller iPhone versions. Now you can access all the useful travel information – from locations and maps to recommendations and reviews – spontaneously and on the go (in other words, from your iPhone). The first to be released are the 2008 New York, Paris, London, and San Francisco editions.

 

5. World GTS Races: Players Unite! The leading manufacturer of mobile video games, Handmark, made its debut on iPhone with this incredible car racing game that includes 64 tracks and 16 arenas around the world with 4 different game modes: Championship, Grand Tour, Challenge Cup and single race. Particularly new mobile features include the use of the iPhone’s accelerometer to manage braking, steering, and acceleration. Also, you can listen to music from your own iTunes music library while playing the game. And the program saves your progress when real life forces you to take a break from racing.

Many of these programs will also be available to iPod Touch users.
