For those of you who have typing skills and would like to improve it and use it for your journey to your new job, I put together some sites that can help you. These are the top 5 free typing test sites that I have researched and recommended (just a note: I do not provide any sites that I am affiliated with or get any commission from your inquiry. They are strictly recommendations based on my research).

#1 RAPIDTYPING (“Editors’ Choice”)

An extremely fun way to learn to write This is definitely an Editors’ Choice! RapidTyping is a fun, fresh and easy to use new site! This is an extremely entertaining method to learn typing, sharpen your skills, and most importantly “without looking”! There are plenty of screenshots for you to see how the program works. Fish is hilarious! As I write now, I laugh to myself when I think of the fish swimming alongside me as I write. I have to see it. There is no limitation of use. You don’t have to worry about giving out your email or registration information. Here are just some of the features: Choose your keyboard Hands on the go Use the simple and colorful interface. Typing game Track progress Make your own plan Make your own lessons There is a portable version. Acceptable for children. Multilingual interface. And much more. Again, the best of all this; the software is free to download. If you would like to make a donation, you have the option to share your appreciation.

#2: FREETYPINGGAME (Includes a free typing certification)

This is such a fun and busy site. If you’re looking for a simpler site, this one might be a bit busy. However, it does give you plenty of resources to gain or polish your skills. They offer a complete interactive method to learn to write. Learning to write has never been so easy. They actually teach you with 2 keys at a time, followed by a review of all the keys in the previous lessons. There are two timed keyboard tests to choose from. An original timed typing test is available that allows you to submit your speed to your world leaderboard in real time. It looks pretty impressive. Although I’m not the braggart type, it’s great for the ego. The typing certificate test allows you to print a certificate with your name and typing speed. Ok, and to save the best for last, I LOVE GAMES! They have quite a few selections of “typing” games for your pleasure and enjoyment, perhaps. My favorite is Spacebar Invaders. Strange creatures are moving down from space. Stop them typing. The more you write, the faster they will get it. UFO bonus points! Love it, love it!

#3 TYPINGTEST (Provides both employees and allows the employer to test applicants directly from the site)

TypingTest is an honest and legit site with an official typing certification. You would first need to register (for free) yourself at the certified online testing site hosted by Expert Rating. Then you’ll need to purchase access to the certified typing test with a credit card, the certificate of which costs $9.99 (not bad, but could be lower). Once you’re warmed up and ready to go, you can complete the full 10-minute writing test. You have three attempts to get the best possible results. Once you are satisfied with the results you have chosen, select the results of your choice to print on the official certificate. That certificate will be mailed to you regardless of where you live in the world. Now just remember, just because these sites offer certificates, you need to be sure to clarify with your potential employer what type of documentation is acceptable.

#4 MRKENT (Generic but GREAT site – also offers a free typing certificate)

Well, who is Mr. Kent? Well I did exactly that. I looked up the whois site and actually found Mr. Kent. I won’t reveal the names, but so far everything looks legit. The website has been around since 1999. Which these days is pretty cool in my book. Sites usually disappear after a while and never come back to life; you know the ones i’m talking about. Mr. Kent was a former instructor at a vocational school, which apparently inspired him to help his students over the Internet. He came up with some tools to help people like you and me succeed in this busy and competitive business world. So after checking out the site, there are HUNDREDS of tools and resources for just about everything you need (just to name a few):

And that’s just the tip of all the resources that are available. You can download study tools, work-at-home tools, small business resources, recipes, and the list goes on. You really want to bookmark this site. All things considered, a big round of applause for Mr. Kent! I will continue to use this site.

#5 LEARN2TYPE (OLD FAITHFUL* Also includes key tests and certifications)

Learn2Type has definitely been around for a while. You can always depend on the site to be close. They have approximately 4,525,766 registered users! This year some new modules were added and modified, such as:

NEW: Typing Certification and Ten Key Certification available!

NEW: Learn2Type for Kids – Simpler and more educational typing exercise content for kids!

NEW – Ten Key Quiz – 10 Key Numeric Keypad Quiz! NEW – QWERTY and Dvorak keyboard – lessons!

NEW – Educational Resources – Find colleges online.

NEW – Teachers and educators, your students can benefit from Learn2Type for Schools – FREE!

I can’t say much about the design of the site, but the real stuff is always there to use. Learn2Type is one of the leading FREE websites that helps you master touch typing skills. Whether you’re a beginner or an expert typist, the skills test adjusts for your speed and accuracy. Therefore, the better you get, the more challenging the typing exercises become. And if you get tired or need to leave the site, you can always come back and pick up where you left off.

So there you have it. Have fun with your search, I wish you the best of luck and maybe you will see my name in the top list of typing games (smile).
