Things are looking a bit bleak for the Blackberry, the PDA cousin to the Pocket PC.

The latest appeal over a patent dispute has been rejected, making an injunction against the sale of the Blackberry in the US more likely.

I always thought that if you did your research and opted to buy one of these devices, you weren’t interested in much other than their contact management features.

It doesn’t really have the processing oomph required for gaming.

For playing devil’s advocate, the Pocket PC really isn’t the ideal vehicle for on-the-go email if you’re based in the Greater Toronto area.

I mentioned this in passing in my blog post on October 4th, but it turns out that GPRS data plans in Toronto are extremely cost prohibitive.

Along with rising gas prices, you really shouldn’t strain your budget by doing pocket perspective send and receive on the go unless you have a few access points handy.

Fortunately, Starbucks is mimicking our Second Cup franchise by offering free Wi-Fi access after going behind the technology curve for Starbucks locations across the United States.

It’s not often that Canada is behind the US technology curve, especially since the vast majority of Canadians are internet savvy.

That probably explains the higher prevalence of software piracy.

However, as dim as things may seem for the Canadian Research in motion Blackberry Company, this bodes well for the world of Pocket PCs.

If we can’t have our Blackberrys, we’ll have our Palms and Pocket PCs. Growing market demand for these drives is on the horizon if a final ruling against RIM is found.

Which means more great PDA games, of course, as Pocket PC and Palm game developers manage to keep up with the anticipated surge in demand.

Of course, most of us will be looking forward to it.

Anyway, you’ll have to excuse me. A new bowling game release waits patiently on my iPAQ 4150.

Hopefully the elusive 300 game is close at hand today.
