The word ‘freeze’ describes the state of a software program that does not respond to user input for a specified period of time. This is a common problem that occurs with many applications, including web browsers.
People have reported that Firefox 4 freezes when they try to open a website or download something from the Internet. Firefox stops responding, the website takes a long time to load, and the download process stops without your permission. The complaints were not only received for Firefox 4, but were also filed by users using Firefox 5, 6, and Firefox 7.
There are several reasons why Firefox 4 freezes. In this article I am going to discuss with you some techniques that helped many users:
There are incompatible themes installed
Ensure full network performance
Delete cookies and Internet history
Remove all third party extensions
There are incompatible themes installed
Firefox (version 4, 5, 6 and 7) freezes when incompatible themes are installed. Take an example of a theme that is installed on Firefox 6 but was originally designed for Firefox 5 or earlier. In such cases, the browser starts to freeze.
Firefox 7 freezing can be stopped by disabling the incompatible theme you applied. First of all, open Mozilla, then press the Alt key on your keyboard and select Tools | Accessories. On the new page that opens, click on the Appearance tab, which is the third one. Click the Deactivate link next to the theme you have currently applied. Set the default theme and try Firefox for half an hour.
Ensure full network performance
To fix Firefox 4 freezing, you need to make sure that you get the most out of your network. Just check if your network settings are optimized or not and if they are not then download an internet optimization tool.
Delete cookies and Internet history
You can fix Firefox 4 crash by deleting web history and all cookies stored on your hard drive. Perform this task as explained below:
Open the Firefox web browser, press the Alt key to show the menu bar.
Click the Tools menu and select Options.
Click on the Privacy tab, which is the fifth option.
Click the Delete individual cookies link and click the Delete all cookies button.
When you’re done, click the Clear your recent history link. Select All from the Time interval to clean drop-down box.
Click Clear Now after checking all the boxes as checked.
Restart Firefox when you’re done.
Remove all third party extensions
Extensions, also called plugins, are the small features installed within a web browser to facilitate access to third-party services through that web browser.
Firefox 6 crashes when these extensions don’t work correctly. This issue is commonly seen when extensions are unable to retrieve registry information and perform their tasks. To fix Firefox, disable and remove all extensions you installed in the Firefox web browser. That’s how:
Again, press the Alt key to bring up the menu bar.
ClickTools | Accessories.
Click on the Extensions tab, which is the second option on the left side.
Disable all extensions one by one and then restart Firefox for the changes to take effect.
